amish friendship bread and more tulips

  Last week I was over at a friend's house, and I noticed the ziploc bag on her counter.  The one that sits there for 10 days while you mash it and mush it, so on the 10th day you must stop everything to make this bread. I asked if she would be willing to part with a bag of the starter mix once she divided the batter. Soooo.....this bag of goo has been sitting on my counter for over a week. Today was the day to mix it, bake it, and divide the mix to pass along to anyone willing to make the commitment.
  This recipe was a little bit different than the one I have made in the past. It called for applesauce, and brown sugar with cinnamon for the topping instead of sugar and cinnamon. Still tastes very similar, just a little more coffee cake-like.
   I hate to admit, this is not the first time I have nearly stalked someone for a starter bag of batter. Either it's really good stuff, or the thought of not being able to make it whenever I feel like adds to the hype.

  

And yes,  I do realize how good I have it that I can stay home and bake bread and take pictures of it.  I'm just making up for all the bon bons and Oprah I didn't get to enjoy today. ;)

    I haven't had friendship bread since I lived in Frederick! Now I really miss it! Thanks Christine!
